Ibu, aku ingin kau baca surat ini
Kutulis diam-diam, bu
di bawah jembatan sambil meringkuk
Aku takut sama Abang, bu
Hari ini aku sepeser pun belum dapat
malah hampir aku terlindas motor
Tapi Abang tidak pernah mau dengar
dan aku hari ini lapar lagi, bu
Ibu, apa sih artinya narkoba?
Sering aku lihat di jalan
ditempel, digantung, dicat
disilang hitam
Aku pernah tanya Abang
Tapi Abang cuma ketawa
lalu memberiku bubuk putih
Enak lho, bu
laparku langsung hilang
Tapi Abang tidak pernah jawab
apa itu narkoba
Ibu, kadang-kadang aku ingin
Pakai baju putih-merah
bertopi dan berdasi
Bajunya bagus, bu
Sekali aku ngintip, ibu
Di ruang itu, semuanya seumurku
tapi aku, beda dari mereka ya, bu
Ibu, kemarin aku lihat
malam-malam ada bayur ditangkap
Pak Polisi itu jahat ya, bu
Padahal Mbak Bayur itu
baik sekali padaku
katanya ia dulu mirip denganku
Ibu, aku menangis sedikit ya
Aku masih di bawah jembatan,
masih sendirian,
masih lapar, bu
aku kangen emakku
Tapi ibu tidak akan pergi kan, bu
Tidak seperti emakku dulu
Aku tahu ibu sayang aku
Cuma ibu, ibuku Indonesia

Hey, I have to agree, I read through several of your entries and this one by far is my fav poem. Glad to find a fellow writer (who apparently writes more than I do *grin* I mostly keep drafts inside my head until their protests become too loud). Am curious though as to how you found my xanga site. Yeah, I miss Pram. Though to quote a friend of mine, a man like Pram never really dies, his legacy will live forever. Never thought of it that way, but I guess my friend’s right.
Actually I don’t even remember where I found your site… through a link from another blog 🙂 Just randomly browsing around, and then stumbled across your xanga…. Thanks for the compliment, and do your drafts a favour: don’t imprison them too long in your head 😉
[…] A group of friends recently gathered together, bound together by a single concern: poor educational standards in Indonesia, and the resulting poverty and suffering. Especially for kids. (See related: Surat Seorang Pengemis Cilik). But sooner or later we’ll have to face an inevitable barrier: funding. […]
