We were kicked out of Borders after been sitting for only 1 hour. The reason? Paul McCartney’s book signing. People had to buy his book in advance and retain their receipts as entry tickets. People and cameras SWARMED in front of the entrance THREE HOURS before he was scheduled to come.
I talked with a disabled lady who lost her receipt at home, who was feeling miserable because she wouldn’t be seeing Paul McCartney. Two big drops of tear leaked from the corner of her eyes as she told me her story. Despite her disability, she had came all the way by a cab (which is, by the way, expensive) only to find that it was all in vain.
I don’t know what happened to her afterwards, whether or not she was able to take a picture of him, but it made me wonder: why do people get to be so fanatic? If it’s about a belief, they are called fundamentalists. If it’s about an idol, they’re called die-hard fans. If it’s about a person, it’s called…. I don’t know… love?
